Cory Moore, a 49-year-old car detailer, was a familiar face in the world of work. He was constantly on the move, traveling through different cities and staying in various places for his job. But on that fateful night of December 7th, his journey came to a tragic end.

Unraveling the Mystery of Cory Moore's Disappearance

The Last Seen

Cory was last seen around 11:30 p.m. at the Holiday Inn Express and Suites in Summerville, South Carolina. He was on a work trip, but his presence there would soon lead to a heart-wrenching discovery. His family and friends were left in a state of shock and confusion as they tried to make sense of what had happened.

His sister, Cortney Davis-Moore, expressed the depth of their grief. "He has so many contacts, so many friends and people reaching out to me that I have no clue who they are," she said. "But they are expressing their love and concern, and condolences. So, when I tell you he had no enemies, he had no enemies. I understand he had health issues, but just how he was found, how long he was there, is just a mystery for us."

The missing posters that were made and shared across Facebook groups became a symbol of their hope for a reunion. Many people came together to help in the search, but despite their efforts, the truth remained elusive.

The Transfer of Case

His mother initially contacted the Dorchester County Sheriff’s Office due to her address. However, the case had to be transferred to the Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office due to jurisdiction. This transfer seemed to cause some delays and confusion in the investigation.

"My mom immediately did a Dorchester county because of her address, a the girlfriend did one, or I guess at least she thought she did one. But she did call for Berkeley County," said Davis-Moore. "The bar was just dropped, they just didn’t do their part either."

The family was left wondering if the proper procedures were followed and if more could have been done to find Cory sooner.

The Hotel Search

Several friends and family went to the hotel to look for Cory, only to be assured by the assistant manager that there was no one in his room. This raised more questions about what really happened.

"I guess she just gave him a room on an empty floor, not to bring attention to the fact that he’s there because she’s given him this room under undercover," his sister said. "Because this is her friend, right? So, I guess she doesn’t wanna get in trouble. She doesn’t want anybody, so I guess technically his name is not in the system."

The family couldn't understand why the hotel staff didn't take a more proactive approach in ensuring Cory's safety.

The Discovery and Aftermath

On Monday, December 16th, Cortney called the Berkeley police after speaking to the Holiday Inn front desk staff. It was then that Cory was eventually found. Police said it didn't look like he was harmed and that he seemed to be sleeping in the bed.

"I feel better because he went peaceful and he was not harmed. But, now I’m mad because I feel like she’s hiding," said Cortney.

The family now wants answers. They want to know why the police and hotel staff didn't check the room first. Or if they were even allowed to. Their questions linger as law enforcement continues to investigate this tragic case.
