When the Alameda Scouts embark on their mission to collect food for the local food bank, they do it with great enthusiasm and scale. During this year's Scouting for Food Drive on November 16th, they managed to collect and deliver an astonishing 15,000 pounds of food to the Alameda Food Bank (AFB), which is equivalent to more than seven tons! This remarkable feat showcases their dedication and hard work.
Uniting Scouts for a Food-Filled Thanksgiving
Collecting and Delivering on a Massive Scale
The Alameda Scouting for Food Drive stands out as the largest of its kind in the nation. Instead of simply collecting food and sending it to a warehouse for sorting and distribution, these Scouts take it a step further. They not only gather the donations but also sort and deliver the food directly to the local food bank. This ensures that the food reaches those in need quickly and efficiently. 1: The process of collecting such a large amount of food is no easy task. The Scouts work tirelessly, going from door to door in the community, asking for donations. They spread the word about the importance of the food drive and encourage residents to contribute. The response has been overwhelming, with families and individuals coming together to support this worthy cause. 2: The donated food included a wide variety of items, such as more than 400 pounds of cranberry sauce, stuffing, mashed potatoes, and gravy for Thanksgiving. This shows the thought and care that went into the donations. In addition to the holiday treats, there were also 3,000 pounds of pasta, rice, and beans for everyday meals. This diverse range of food will help meet the needs of the 1,300 families who rely on the Alameda Food Bank each week.Helping Families in Need
The work of the Alameda Scouts has a direct impact on the lives of families in the community. As the Warehouse Manager Josh England stated, "The Scouts not only collected the food but sorted it for us. This helps us quickly get the food on the shelves of our Island Community Market for families that need it." The non-perishable food donated by residents will provide much-needed meals for these families, ensuring that they have enough to eat. 1: An average of 375 people shop at the food bank each day it's open, highlighting the ongoing need for assistance. The Scouts' efforts play a crucial role in meeting this need and making a difference in the lives of those who are struggling. Their dedication and hard work are truly inspiring. 2: For residents who missed the chance to donate during the Scouting For Food Drive, there are still ways to help. They can donate food or funds directly to the Alameda Food Bank.
