AustinTown is making a significant impact in providing food for those in need. A unique collaboration between the Mahoning Valley Corvette Club and Greenwood Chevrolet has led to a remarkable donation drive. "Local Businesses Unite to Feed the Valley"
Mahoning Valley Corvette Club's Initiative
The Mahoning Valley Corvette Club took the lead in this noble cause. Starting five weeks ago, they filled a Corvette several times over with hundreds of pounds of food. President Sam Sicilia proudly stated that in 2023, the club made $10,800 worth of donations to local charities and is on track to top $11,000 this year. Their efforts set the stage for a generous donation drive.
These Corvettes became symbols of community spirit as they were filled with various food items, ready to make a difference in the lives of those facing food insecurity.
Greenwood Chevrolet's Participation
Glen Greenwood, the owner of Greenwood Chevrolet, thought it would be a great idea to add a $25,000 check to the donation. The business manager Tracy Briden described it as a "fun little competition" among the body shop, service and parts, and sales departments.
Family members and customers of Greenwood Chevrolet also got involved, helping to fill the designated Chevy Silverados and Chevy Colorado. The goal was to fill all three trucks and have Greenwood Chevrolet donate the $25,000 to Second Harvest Food Bank.
The Impact of the Donation
On Tuesday, all three trucks were overflowing with groceries of all kinds. Renee Fuller, spokesperson for Second Harvest, emphasized the great need in the Mahoning Valley. She said that the $25,000 donation alone is equivalent to 125,000 meals for the area.
When the food from all the trucks is added up, it will be an astronomical amount that can provide families with more than just basic staples. This allows them to stretch their money further and meet their grocery needs.
After representatives spoke, the staff from Greenwood Chevrolet helped load the groceries into large boxes. These boxes were then loaded onto a large Second Harvest box truck for transportation to their main facility, ensuring that the food reaches those in need.
