McGuire's Partnership and Impact

Senator McGuire joined forces with Food for People, KHUM radio, North Coast News, Redwood News, and six local high schools – Arcata, Eureka, Ferndale, Fortuna, McKinleyville, and St. Bernard's – for this annual event, which has now become the largest food drive on the North Coast. The $56,000 raised from generous donors and community members, with donations still coming in, will assist Food for People's 26 food pantries across Humboldt County. These pantries provide sustenance to 21,000 local residents each month. Over the past two years, the demand for Food for People's services has increased by more than 30 percent. 1: The collaborative effort between McGuire and these various entities showcases the power of community unity. By bringing together different sectors and organizations, they were able to create a significant impact on the lives of those in need. The large amount of food and funds collected is a testament to the generosity and compassion of the North Coast community. 2: This partnership not only provides immediate relief but also helps build a stronger community. It shows that when people come together, they can achieve great things and make a lasting difference in the lives of others.

McKinleyville High School's Outstanding Performance

McKinleyville High School took home the Golden Can Award yet again, achieving a clean sweep. They collected an astonishing 23,356 pounds of food and also received $1,267 in contributions for Food for People. Their efforts were rewarded with the coveted Golden Can Award and a $750 check, which they will use towards their next school dance. 1: The success of McKinleyville High School in this food drive is a remarkable achievement. It highlights the dedication and enthusiasm of the students in giving back to their community. Their hard work and determination have set an example for other schools and community members. 2: This victory not only brings pride to the school but also serves as an inspiration for others to get involved in similar initiatives. It shows that even young people can make a significant impact and contribute to the betterment of society.

Food for People's Distribution and Need

Last year, Food for People distributed over 2.4 million pounds of food to low-income households across Humboldt. The need is particularly great for thousands of kids and seniors. Over a quarter of those served by Food for People are children who rely on others to have enough to eat. 1: The large amount of food distributed by Food for People highlights the significant challenge of food insecurity in the area. The fact that a significant portion of the recipients are children emphasizes the importance of addressing this issue early on. 2: By providing food to these vulnerable populations, Food for People is playing a crucial role in ensuring that no one goes hungry. Their efforts are making a real difference in the lives of thousands of people.

Senator McGuire's Gratitude and Acknowledgment

"Yet again, Humboldt showed up in a big way to feed neighbors in need and make a HUGE difference in the lives of thousands. Let's be clear – we live in the most generous place on Earth and we couldn't be more grateful for the outpouring of support," said Senator McGuire. "We owe a huge debt of gratitude to the incredible high school students who make this Food Drive possible, pounding the pavement and collecting thousands of pounds of food, along with the hundreds of generous neighbors who delivered another record-setting year. Thank you, Humboldt. You're making the holidays brighter for thousands." 1: Senator McGuire's words reflect the deep appreciation he has for the community's support. His leadership and dedication have played a crucial role in making this food drive a success. 2: His gratitude serves as a reminder of the importance of community involvement and the positive impact it can have. By acknowledging the efforts of others, he encourages more people to get involved and make a difference.
