The University of North Dakota (UND) is set to host over 380 talented high school musicians from North Dakota and Minnesota for the 40th Annual Honor Band, Choir, and Strings Festival. This prestigious event, which runs over three days, showcases some of the region's most promising young artists who were chosen from nearly 900 auditions held in the fall. Participants will engage in rehearsals, master classes, and perform in two public concerts, creating an unforgettable experience for both performers and audiences alike.

Highlights of the festival include performances by various ensembles from UND’s music department, as well as guest appearances by chamber groups and soloists. The opening concert on Friday afternoon will be free to attend, while Sunday’s performance will offer a ticketed showcase featuring the combined efforts of the Honor Band, Choir, and Strings Ensemble. The weekend’s events culminate with a grand finale performance of “From Sea to Shining Sea,” conducted by Professor James Popejoy. Throughout the festival, attendees can expect to witness a diverse range of musical selections that highlight the exceptional skills of these young musicians.

This milestone event has had a profound impact on the lives of many participants, often serving as a catalyst for their future academic and professional pursuits in music. For 25 years, Professor Popejoy has led the Honor Band at this festival, fostering a community of passionate musicians and inspiring countless students to pursue their dreams. The festival not only celebrates musical excellence but also underscores the importance of dedication, teamwork, and artistic expression in shaping the next generation of leaders in the field of music.
