Volunteers: The Heart of the Food Shelf
Deb Waibel, a dedicated volunteer at the food shelf, takes pride in sorting food items. She finds joy in meeting people who come through the doors on Mondays and Wednesdays. "It's amazing to see the faces of those we help. Each one has a story, and being a part of their journey is truly rewarding," she says. Helen Vogel, another volunteer, distributes dairy products with a sense of purpose. "Helping others gives me a sense of fulfillment. Knowing that we can make a difference in someone's life is what keeps me coming back," she shares.Meeting the Demand
Food shelf executive director Brad Kirk has witnessed a significant increase in demand in the last few months. "We're currently serving 155 families a month, but there are about 350 families that are eligible. It's heartening to see the support we receive from donors. Every little bit helps," he explains. Clients like Sarah Smith also feel the impact. "With high food prices, it's harder to make ends meet. But the food shelf is a lifeline. I'm grateful for the help," she says.Improving Efficiency
To better serve the community, projects are underway to make the food shelf more efficient. "We're remodeling the garage and making the building handicap-accessible. This will ensure that everyone can access the resources they need," Kirk says. How to Get Involved
