Thanksgiving is a time of feasting and togetherness, but not all the traditional foods live up to the hype. In this series, we take a closer look at the overrated Thanksgiving treats and analyze why they don't quite meet our expectations.

Uncover the Truth About Overrated Thanksgiving Foods

Apple Pie - Matt O’Connor

In my family, dessert is a crucial part of the meal, and we usually go for a Carvel ice cream cake or a variety of delicious cookies. Apple pie, on the other hand, has never really won my heart. It's just a bit too crisp for my taste. Pecan pie is a bit better, but still not my top choice. The unbridled love for pie as a dessert in general seems a bit overrated to me.

Apple pie has this certain charm, but it doesn't quite deliver the same level of satisfaction as other desserts. Maybe it's the texture or the flavor that doesn't quite hit the mark. It's not bad, but it's not the dessert that makes me go weak in the knees either.

Green Bean Casserole - Marcus Antonelli

Why do we insist on having green bean casserole on Thanksgiving? To me, it looks like puke and is a complete eyesore. Just eat the green beans on their own or pair them with mashed potatoes and gravy if you must. The combination of heavy cream, mushrooms, and fried onions is a recipe for an optical stomach ache.

I can't understand why this dish has become such a staple of Thanksgiving. It doesn't add anything to the meal and actually detracts from the overall culinary experience. The taste is just not worth the effort, and I wouldn't let it anywhere near my taste buds. It's a dish that should be left on the sidelines.

Turkey - Pat Casey

Turkey is undoubtedly the most overrated food on the Thanksgiving table. It feels like a chicken that didn't get enough love at birth. It's very dry and needs gravy to add some substance. Without the gravy, it's just a bland and unappetizing meat.

Think about it, if it wasn't for our pilgrim ancestors having only turkey to eat all those years ago, we probably wouldn't be so excited about it. People would laugh if you offered them turkey as a first choice. It's only popular because of tradition, not because it's actually that good.

Turkey - Alena Laurent

As a pescatarian, I've had the opportunity to try turkey a few times, and I have to say, it's not that great. After the first few bites, it becomes dry and unappetizing. It just keeps chewing and never fully dissolves in your mouth.

I know many people who choose to have ham on Thanksgiving instead because they find turkey to be lacking. It's a big part of the holiday, but it doesn't live up to the expectations. There are definitely better options out there.

Pecan Pie - Morgan Creighton

Putting nuts in dessert is a bad idea, and that's why pecan pie is overrated. The taste of the pecans takes away from the sweetness of the dessert. The crunchiness of the nuts makes it difficult to eat and detracts from the overall enjoyment.

Pecan pie is just not a well-balanced dessert. The nuts overpower the other flavors, and it doesn't have the smooth and creamy texture that we expect from a good dessert. It's a dessert that's more trouble than it's worth.
